Pakistan to Get First Ever Centralized 911 Emergency Helpline – KP Becomes First Province to Launch Service

Pakistan is preparing to introduce its first centralized 911 emergency helpline, a major reform aimed at bringing all emergency services under a single universal number. According to officials from the National Telecommunication Corporation (NTC), the system is already under development and will initially launch in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) before expanding to the rest of the country.
The new service, similar to the 911 model used in the United States, will enable citizens to call one unified number for any emergency—police assistance, medical help, ambulance, fire service, disaster management, or rescue operations. Instead of dealing with multiple helpline numbers, callers will be automatically connected to the nearest emergency center based on their location.
NTC representatives confirmed that the KP government has formally signed an agreement to begin the rollout. Once operational, any person calling the 911-like helpline from anywhere in KP will be routed to the closest response unit, ensuring faster, more accurate, and coordinated emergency handling. After successful deployment in KP, the federal government plans to expand the model to Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, and Gilgit-Baltistan.
Officials believe that the centralized 911 system will significantly improve response times—a critical problem in Pakistan’s current emergency structure where different agencies operate their own helplines. By creating a unified command-and-response system, communication gaps will be reduced, and cross-department teamwork will become more efficient. This upgrade is expected to help police, Rescue 1122, fire brigades, health departments, and disaster management authorities work in real-time collaboration.
The 911-like platform will also use automated location tracking to guide emergency teams, reducing delays caused by unclear directions or lack of quick coordination. The goal is to build a strong digital network where responders receive instant alerts, caller details, and location points.

The government has emphasized that this project is part of a broader digital transformation strategy to modernize public safety, improve emergency infrastructure, and introduce global best practices in Pakistan. With rising population density, traffic congestion, and increasing emergency cases, authorities believe that a unified number is now a necessity rather than a luxury.
Following KP’s lead, other provinces are expected to join the system gradually. Once fully implemented nationwide, Pakistan will move towards a modern emergency management structure where citizens can dial one universal number—just like 911 in the US—for any type of help.
The centralized system aims to bring reliability, faster action, and high-quality service delivery across Pakistan’s emergency response network. Early feedback from provincial administrations shows strong support for the initiative, especially due to its potential to save thousands of lives through timely intervention.
As development continues, more updates are expected regarding the official launch timeline, technology integration, and province-wide expansion strategy. For now, KP stands at the front line of this major reform, marking a historic step toward a unified national emergency system.
