KP Announces Multiple New Police Jobs – Special Branch Upgraded With Rs 5.3 Billion Plan

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has announced a major expansion of its policing and intelligence capabilities, with the provincial government approving more than 1,200 new police jobs under a massive upgrade plan for the Special Branch. The decision marks one of the largest structural reforms within the KP Police in recent years, reflecting the government’s focus on strengthening intelligence, counterterrorism response, and internal security across the province.
The approval was given during a high-level meeting held in Peshawar, chaired by Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi. Senior police officials briefed the forum on the existing structure, responsibilities, and operational challenges of the Special Branch, which currently oversees intelligence gathering, security assessments, field surveys, and verification procedures across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Special Branch to Operate as an Independent Unit
One of the most significant decisions of the meeting was the formal approval to establish the Special Branch as an independent policing unit, separate from other provincial law-enforcement wings. Officials said the move would increase efficiency, improve response time, and allow the force to operate with specialized staff and advanced operational authority.
The Chief Minister emphasized that the unit would be reorganized according to modern counterterrorism and intelligence needs, enabling it to better detect security threats and assist in coordinated operations across the province.
He directed the authorities to ensure that the new unit receives full logistical and administrative support, including:
- Dedicated staff
- State-of-the-art technology
- Modern communication tools
- Updated operational systems
- Improved data integration with other law enforcement agencies
308 Personnel Already Added From Merged Districts
Officials informed the Chief Minister that a total of 308 personnel from the merged districts have already been transferred into the Special Branch. These officers have been assisting the unit with field surveillance, information collection, and threat detection activities, particularly in areas with a history of militant activity.
The briefing also highlighted the Special Branch’s operational achievements during 2025, including the recovery and neutralization of:
- Multiple suicide jackets
- Improvised explosive devices (IEDs)
- Hand grenades
- Tactical communication equipment used by militants
Officials added that the intelligence wing remains one of the key components of KP’s internal security network, often supporting frontline police units with crucial information before operations are launched.
1,221 New New Police Jobs Approved for Recruitment
In a major development, the Chief Minister gave initial approval for 1,221 new police posts, which will be added to the Special Branch over the coming months. These vacancies will include:
- Field intelligence officers
- Technical experts
- Surveillance and monitoring operators
- Data & analytics staff
- Counterterrorism support personnel
- Administrative & logistics officers
Recruitment will be done in phases after the final approval of the proposed structure, officials noted.
With the addition of these posts, the Special Branch will become one of the most specialized and well-staffed intelligence units in the province.
Rs. 5.3 Billion Allocated for Upgradation
To support the expansion and modernization effort, the KP government has allocated Rs. 5.3 billion. The funding will be used for:
- Construction of new district and regional offices
- Purchase of vehicles and motorcycles for field mobility
- Installation of upgraded surveillance systems
- Acquisition of advanced intelligence-gathering equipment
- Strengthening the digital and technical infrastructure
- Training programs for newly recruited officers
Officials said the investment reflects the province’s long-term security priorities and aims to ensure that the Special Branch is capable of handling emerging challenges posed by both internal and external threats.
KP Government Prioritizes Counterterrorism Preparedness
Chief Minister Afridi reiterated that enhancing the province’s security apparatus remains a “top priority,” adding that effective intelligence operations are essential for pre-empting militant threats.
He noted that modern policing requires specialized units that are not only well-trained but also technologically advanced. The Special Branch upgrade is expected to significantly improve threat detection, support police operations, and strengthen coordination with national security agencies.
“All necessary resources will be provided to improve the operational capacity of the Special Branch,” he said, promising accelerated implementation of the upgrade plan.
Targeted Operations Kill 13 Militants in Two Days
In a separate development, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) reported that security forces carried out two major intelligence-based operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa between 20 and 21 November 2025.
According to ISPR:
- 13 militants were killed
- They belonged to the Indian-sponsored militant faction Fitna Al Khawarij
- The encounters took place in Lakki Marwat (Paharkhel area) and another district
- A joint operation between police, intelligence agencies, and security forces led to the elimination of 10 militants in Lakki Marwat after an intense firefight
The operations underscore the need for strengthened intelligence capabilities, officials said, highlighting why the upgrade of the Special Branch is being fast-tracked.
A Transformational Step for KP’s Security Landscape
With more than 1,200 new jobs, a Rs. 5.3 billion modernization plan, and a renewed focus on specialized intelligence, the KP government’s move is being viewed as a transformational step toward improving provincial security.
The upgraded Special Branch is expected to:
- Enhance pre-emptive intelligence collection
- Improve coordination with counterterrorism units
- Strengthen border-area surveillance
- Reduce militant mobility
- Support law enforcement with real-time threat information
Officials believe that once the new structure is fully functional, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s policing capacity will significantly increase—making security operations faster, more precise, and more technologically aligned with modern standards.
