Islamabad Cricket Stadium Construction Fast-Tracked by Mohsin Naqvi – Major Update Released

Islamabad Cricket Stadium Construction Fast-Tracked by Mohsin Naqvi

Islamabad is finally moving closer to getting its own modern cricket stadium as Interior Minister and PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has officially ordered the fast-track construction of the long-delayed project. This latest development has sparked excitement among cricket fans who have been waiting for years to see a world-class venue in the capital city.

According to reports, Mohsin Naqvi has directed concerned authorities to speed up all remaining approvals, clear land-related bottlenecks, and begin rapid on-ground development without further delays. This step aims to ensure the stadium becomes operational as early as possible, especially with Pakistan preparing to host more international cricket events in the coming years.

Officials confirmed that the stadium will be built according to ICC international standards, featuring modern seating arrangements, digital screens, VIP enclosures, improved security systems, and high-quality training facilities for domestic and international players.

Long-Delayed Project Finally Moving Forward

The Islamabad Cricket Stadium project was announced several years ago, but due to administrative hurdles, land issues, and lack of political continuity, the project saw repeated delays. With Mohsin Naqvi now personally monitoring progress, the project has regained momentum.

Sources within the PCB revealed that the stadium design phase has already been updated, and the construction tendering process is being accelerated. Once completed, Islamabad will finally join Lahore, Karachi, Rawalpindi, and Multan as a key city for hosting major cricket events.

Major Boost for Cricket in the Capital

Cricket experts believe this new stadium will not only bring more international matches to Islamabad but also:

  • Provide a dedicated home ground for Islamabad
  • Strengthen Pakistan’s cricket infrastructure
  • Support PSL, domestic tournaments, and training programs
  • Create jobs and improve local business activity
  • Offer better entertainment and sports facilities for residents

With growing interest in PSL and international cricket, having a high-capacity stadium in the capital is seen as a necessary upgrade.

When Will Construction Begin?

Although an exact timeline has not been announced, Mohsin Naqvi has stated that work will begin immediately after final approvals, suggesting that heavy machinery may be deployed soon.

Authorities are optimistic that construction will progress at a rapid pace, given the high priority assigned by the government and PCB.

What Cricket Fans Can Expect

Once completed, the Islamabad Cricket Stadium is expected to include:

  • 40,000+ seating capacity
  • Modern floodlights
  • ICC-standard pitch block
  • Executive boxes & VIP lounges
  • Media center and press box
  • Advanced security & surveillance
  • Training academy and practice nets
  • Ample parking & shuttle service

These features will elevate Islamabad’s standing as a major cricketing hub in Pakistan.
