Big Relief for Public: Sindh Government Reduces Dengue, Malaria, and CBC Test Prices

In a major public-health move, the Sindh Health Care Commission (SHCC) under the Government of Sindh has significantly reduced the prices of essential blood tests — including dengue, malaria and CBC tests — to make diagnostics more affordable and to curb misuse of medicines.

Why the Price Reduction for Dengue & Malaria Tests in Sindh?

Sindh has been facing a rise in vector-borne diseases like dengue and malaria, especially after seasonal rains and flooding. Experts say early detection is vital to controlling outbreaks. The SHCC has responded by directing labs to reduce testing rates drastically so more people can get screened without high costs.

By reducing these costs, the government ensures that people get proper diagnosis before treatment, thereby reducing unnecessary use of antibiotics and improving overall health outcomes.

New Rates of Key Diagnostic Tests in Sindh

According to SHCC CEO Dr Ahsan Qavi, the following revised rates apply across SHCC-registered laboratories:

TestOld Price (PKR)New Price (PKR)
Malaria ICT Test3,050600
Dengue NS1 Test4,5501,100
Dengue IgM Combo Test4,1501,500
CBC with Smear (including follow-up)1,250500

These changes represent up to 75-80% reductions, significantly lowering the barrier to essential testing.
Labs already charging at or below these rates are permitted to continue doing so.

Which Labs Will Offer These Tests at Discounted Rates?

The SHCC has identified 10 specific laboratories across Sindh where patients can get these tests at the new reduced rates. These include renowned facilities like:

  • Aga Khan University Hospital Laboratory
  • Jinnah Sindh Medical University Laboratory
… and other SHCC-approved diagnostic centres.
This ensures wide access so that people from different areas of Sindh can benefit.

Doctors Directed to Confirm Before Prescribing Antibiotics

In addition to price cuts, the SHCC has instructed all doctors in the province to confirm dengue or malaria via test before prescribing medications — especially antibiotics. This is a critical step because treating without a confirmed diagnosis can lead to antibiotic resistance and ineffective care.

By ensuring testing first, the government emphasises accurate treatment rather than guesswork.

What this Means for Public Health and You

By making high-volume tests affordable, Sindh’s health authorities are:

  • Enabling early detection of dengue and malaria, which improves treatment outcomes
  • Reducing financial burden on patients who previously had to pay thousands of rupees
  • Minimising self-medication and antibiotic misuse, improving long-term health resilience
  • Strengthening preventive healthcare in the province

The revised pricing is effective from October 21, 2025 until December 31, 2025, giving people a clear timeframe to access relief.

How You Can Take Advantage of the Reduced Rates

  1. If you have fever, body aches or any symptoms that could hint at dengue or malaria, visit one of the approved labs listed above.
  2. Ask for the specific test: “Dengue NS1”, “Malaria ICT”, “CBC with smear” and confirm the new price.
  3. Show your national identity or other proof if required by the lab.
  4. Avoid skipping the test and immediately requesting medication — get the lab report first so the doctor can decide accurately.
  5. Share this information with family and friends so more people can benefit from the relief.

Final Thoughts: A Big Win for Sindh Citizens

The Sindh Government’s decision to cut blood-test prices by up to 80% is a major step towards making health services accessible and equitable. In a province burdened by vector-borne diseases, timely diagnosis matters a lot — and now cost will no longer be as big a barrier.

If you or someone you know is feeling unwell, now is the time to get tested — and get the care you deserve without the hefty bill.
Stay well, stay informed, and spread the word.
